And now... 'ROLF!: Playwrights and Piledrivers'

It's the battle to settle, once and for all, who gets to claim credit for the Complete Works of William Shakespear! In this corner: Sir Francis Bacon and the Earl of Oxford. In that corner, William Shakespeare and Macho Man Randy Savage!

Return to the world of "Houseboat on the River Styx", as "ROLF!: Playwrights and Piledrivers" pits Elizabethan poets versus Macho Man Randy Savage in a product only slightly less silly than the plot of Roland Emmerich's "Anonymous."

With new Combat Maneuvers, six pre-generated characters (including the Earl of Oxford and Macho Man Randy Savage), and fiction written by Steve Miller (or possibly Sir Francis Bacon... we may never know the truth, but it is a fact that Everything Is Better With Bacon), it's literary conspiracy theory as only NUELOW Games can do!

Steve Costigan battles again on 11/16/2011!

Last month, NUELOW Games released "Fists of Foolishness", a collection of ten humorous short stories by Robert E. Howard detailing the misadventures of sea-faring boxing champ Steve Costigan.

This Wednesday, Costigan sails again, taking the fight to gangsters, Chinese warlords, Mexican bandits, con artists, and any and all boxers who face him in the ring in "Shanghaied Mitts."

Featuring 11 action-packed tales of outrageous adventures that take Costigan from the wilds of Texas to the interior of China, and a handful for battle scenarios designed for use with The Violent Worlds of Robert E. Howard game, this book is a must-have if you enjoyed Volume One.

Keep watching this space for news as to when the book will be on sale at the NUELOW Games store at Onebookshelf.com. Meanwhile, here's a look at the cover illustration for "Shanghaied Mitts."

ROLF! for the iPhone is now available!

The ROLF! iPhone app game is now available in the iTunes store! Yay! Click here to check it out!

The app comes with a printable copy of the original "ROLF!: The Rollplaying Game for Big Dumb Fighters" so you can use the app based on the table-top game so you can play the table-top game!

The game features art and character portraits by Larry Elmore (just like the basic game and the first few supplements... as well as some that are coming up, as we drag Elmore back into the madness that is ROLF!)

Rick will be adding combat scenarios, characters, and such. And please let us know what you think of it, either on the iTunes site, here, or via email to me. :)

(Oh... and given the disclaimers on the game, Apple must be quite sensitive to violence and nudity. Or I'm desensitized to it.)

And now... 'ROLF!: Gaddafi's Angels'

Ripped from yesterday's headlines! More action and intrigue than the latest big budget espionage action thriller, and almost as much logic!

"Gaddafi's Angels" is the latest supplement for ROLF!: The Rollplaying Game of Big Dumb Fighters. It contains three thematically linked combat scenarios and five pre-generated characters--including Colonel Muammar Gaddafi and his mysterious cadre of lovely women warriors, Gaddafi's Angels (making this another ROLF! supplement that's fun and educational!), Sarah Palin (a woman of mystery of there ever was one), and the sinister Agents of HUMMUS.

Gaddafi may be disposed and murdered (and few mourn him very much), but the battle of Angel vs. HUMMUS goes on. Now with 100% more Sarah Palin!

Click here to get your copy of "ROLF!: Gaddafi's Angels" from RPGNow.com for just 50 cents. This expansion works both with the current edition of ROLF! as well as the free Old Skool Edition.

All proceeds on sales of this product will go to fund my rise to supervillian status so can have my own cadre of hottie women bodyguards and secret agents on retainer. So get your copy today!

Gaddafi and his Angels! (See... we DON'T make this stuff up!)

ROLF! House Rules

Here are some "missing rules" that "Alhoon" posted on the Fraternity of Shadows message board. Feel free to incorporate them into your ROLF! games, because, unlike what the Godfather of Gaming Gary Gygax wrote about AD&D in the immortal Dragon Magazine #64, you are still playing ROLF!: The Rollplaying Game of Big Dumb Fighters even if you aren't playing it exactly as we wrote it.

Feel free to add your own rules! And if they're fun, send them our way!

Alhoon, ROLF! player and Ravenloft fan, on How to Play ROLF!: The Rollplaying Game.

ROLF! takes 15 mins to read from cover to cover. If you spend more time than that... then you are doing it wrong!

Just note that there are some rules missing, that are very, very important. Namely:

- When your opponent rolls and then his cellphone rings, his mom knocks the door etc, you fudge his dice rolls turning "1" to "6" etc while he's not looking.

- When you use "seduction" you should always kiss your hand making a loud, disturbing, wet "Mooooch" sound.

- If you successfully castrate an opponent, everyone in the room should point at the player of the unlucky char and laugh at him.

- If you have the "do lunch" maneuver, you should eat fallen opponents while fighting. [ED NOTE: And this is made easier if your character has the Mutant Trait and Fangs.]

- If you play with your significant other and her/his char castrates yours, while everyone is pointing at you and laughing, you should throw a fit, how your relationship is going bad and vow to abstain from sexual intercourse for a week.

Time for "ROLF!: Gaddafi's Angels"?

Hmmmm... Gaddafi's dead. His hot chick bodyguards are free agents. Maybe it's time to write "Gaddafi's Angels." While there are all sorts of tasteless jokes that can be generated from the fact that M.G. was smoked in a pipe, I think these girls probably have far more potential.

Here's an initial crack a stat block...

Gaddafi's Angels
Brawn: 27, Body: 18, Brains: 11
Traits: Nimble, Too Sexy for My Shirt
Combat Maneuvers: Basic Attack, Bitch Slap, Castrate, Disembowel, Furious Fists, Seduce, Spelling (Draw Weapon*), Strike Pose, The Look, The Walk.
Important Stuff Worn/Wielded: Easily doffed uniform with camo bikini underneath (clothes). Successful use of the Draw Weapon Spelling summons a Medium melee or ranged weapon into the Angel's hand. It deals 3 points of damage.)

Hello, angels!

*This spelling is basically the same as "Ninja Arsenal" but I don't have "Cap'n Jack on the Isle of Pirate's Doom" handy to look it up. I'll fix it later. :)

Important Stuff Worn/Wielded: He's Chuck f'n Norris... what could he possibly need?!

And here's ROLF! stats for Abe Lincoln, in case you want to bring Nice Peter's Epic Rap Battles of History: Abe Lincoln vs. Chuck Norris to the gaming table!

Coming Soon: The Breast Hope for Peace!

Have you ever wondered what Chuck Norris might look like as a ROLF! character? How about Barack Obama? Or maybe Pope Benedict, the Pazer Papa?

Well, wonder no more, because they--and a whole lot of other folk--are featured in "ROLF!: The Breast Hope for Peace!"

This product has its genesis in the real-world milestone in world-cultural evolution of an the Arab-language magazine Lilac featuring a bikini-clad Christian Israeli of Arab ethnicity on its cover. (Read about it at Cinema Steve by clicking here.)

We here at NUELOW Games were more excited than Rebecca Black on a Friday morning (we SO excited!) when we heard about this development; if there was anything that could be taken as a harbinger than the Hope & Change and global harmony that it was believed Obama would usher in, than this had to be it! So, we celebrated in the only way we knew how and created a new RPG supplement.

On Wednesday, you'll be able to join our celebration, as "The Breast Hope for Peace" goes on sale at RPGNow and DriveThruRPG. And you'll be able to pit Mahmoud Ahmadinejad against invaders from Mars!

Or maybe you can watch us get sued....?

I played a working prototype of ROLF! for the iPhone.
And it was good!

For the past few weeks, developer Rick Blair has been working on what I think is an exceptionally cool iPhone app. But then I'm biased.

It's ROLF!: The Rollplaying Game for the iPhone/iPad/i-whatever that runs apps! It's what an RPG for your iPhone would be if they had iPhones in 1984, with black-and-white Larry Elmore art and no storyline whatsoever to get in the way of the fight. Within a month or two, you'll be able to break out your little devices and play ROLF! anywhere and everywhere, even without dice.

Note to the players in my campaigns: You better have THIS app on your mobiles if you bring them out during games I am GMing!

Here are some screen samples... watch this space for updates.

The latest fiction and RPG release from us:
'Fists of Foolishness' -- comedy the Robert E. Howard way!

We're proud to announce our third Robert E. Howard-centric fiction anthology, as we continue to share our love for this great writer's non-Conan/Solomon Kane material.

"Fists of Foolishness: The Tales of Sea-faring Boxing Champ Steve Costigan" is the first of two volumes collecting all the stories featuring the character that were published during Howard's life-time. It's an anthology of ten stories that shows Howard writing in a style very different from the oft-reprinted tales of Conan and Solomon Kane, one where his prose is light-hearted and down-to-earth but no less intense when it comes to the action.

SPECIAL BONUS: This edition includes a complete roleplaying game, "The Violent Worlds of Robert E. Howard". Using the ROLF! Rules System, and designed by veteran game designer Steve Miller and ROLF!-originator L.L. Hundal, this game is intended to capture the fun of a Steve Costigan brawl, but can easily be used to emulate the gore-spattered rampages of Conan.

Click here for more information, and to read a preview if you wish. It can be yours for just US$3.75!

New ROLF! Combat Scenario now available

The latest supplement for "ROLF!: The Rollplaying Game of Big Dumb Fighters" is epic! Well, epic by ROLF! standards. Click here to get your copy from RPGNow for just $1, or read on to be convinced you want a copy of Supermodel Slapfest!

Six supermodels are trapped in a building with a whiny fashion designer and a hunky handyman... and a murderer out to get them all! Sounds like the teaser summary for a slasher film, but it's actually the subject of the latest supplement for ROLF!: The Rollplaying Game of Big Dumb Fighters.

Dangerously close to being a real adventure (as opposed to the usual stuff where characters meet, characters kick each other into oblivion), this 10-page product features new Combat Maneuvers, new Stuff (both Armor and Weapons), eight pre-generated player characters, as well as the maniac who is trying to kill them. Well, who probably will kill them if the egomaniacal supermodels don't kill each other first.

As an added feature, there's a system for secretly making one of the "victims" the killer--just like in the slasher flicks where there has to be a "Big Reveal"--and no one knows who the murderer is until the time is right.

"ROLF: Supermodel Slapfest" is avaiable for just $1! Get yours today!

Some art created for "Supermodel Slapfest!"

Although it's hit some developmental bumps, the next ROLF! supplement is still in the works.

"Supermodel Slapfest!: A ROLF! Triumph of Style Over Substance" will be hitting the web Tuesday or Wednesday... although this slide in the schedule may mean that "ROLF AT SEA!" may be not out in time for International Speak Like a Pirate Day. Which is a real bummer to me.

Anyhow, there are some of the character portraits that have been created for "Supermodel Slapfest." The Combat Scenario itself will revolve around six supermodels locked in a building with a masked killer who is stalking and picking them off. Of course, the supermodels can also take the opportunity to kill hated rivals and blame it on the insane butcher.

Best-selling titles in August

Here's a list of the best-selling NUELOW Games titles for the month of August.

1. Names in the Black Book by Robert E. Howard (horror fiction anthology)

2. From Dark Corners Vo1. 1 by Various (horror fiction anthology)

3. Rolf!: Santa vs. Santos vs. Jesus by Steve Miller and L.L. Hundal (game supplement)

4. The Deadly Sword of Cormac by Robert E. Howard (historical fiction anthology)

5. Rolf!: The Rollplaying Game of Big Dumb Fighters by L.L. Hundal and Steve Miller (core rule book)

Although I was disappointed that the John Kendrick Bangs books from July didn't do better than they did, because I love his stuff dearly, I am happy with the level of sales we've been getting from our Robert E. Howard collections. We've got a few more coming, and we'll see if Howard keeps being popular with you folks out there.

Meanwhile, if you've purchases and downloaded any of our releases, we'd love to hear from you, either here on the blog or through comments on the listings where you downloaded your purchase. What did you like? What didn't you like? Let us know, so we can improve!

Two new releases from NUELOW Games!

We remain in the grip of Robert E. Howard mania at NUELOW Games, and this past weekend we released a new fiction anthology with Howard fiction, and a ROLF! supplement inspired by same.

The anthology, titled "Names in the Black Book," features three horror-tinged detective stories featuring Steve Harrison, the cop character Howard wrote the most stories about. Click here for more details, or do buy a copy for a mere $1.75.

The Howard-inspired ROLF! supplement is "Hammerin' Tongs," which features three new boxing themed Combat Maneuvers, as the three included interlinked Combat Scenarios are keyed to pre-generated characters (also included) based on Howard's Steve Harrison, his boxing sailor Steve Costigan, Tong opponents wanting to beat them up (and visa versa). Like most other ROLF! supplements, it costs a mere $0.50 at RPGNow.com.

Check 'em out... come join NUELOW Games in our love of Robert E. Howard's non-Conan creations! (And if you have a moment, let us know what you think of the releases!)

We can't get higher praise than this!

When we designed ROLF!: The Rollplaying Game for Big Dumb Fighters, we never thought people wold play it for more than 15-20 minutes... it was just a little game to be used to pass the time before or after the Main Event.

Well, there are few things more satisfying for an RPG creator to learn that not only are people playing your game, but they are having more fun with it than you ever imagined... because they are actually playing it, even playing out the scenarios to their end!

Herb Severson, a player with an infectious enthusiasm for ROLF!, posted the following comments on FACEBOOK regarding his experience with "Herbert West vs. the Zombies":

Had a great game with some friends using the new ROLF RPG set from Steve Miller & NUELOW Games. Great Gothic Zombie Horror set. Herbert West was run by myself with the players playing the Zombie Hoard.

The players prevailed :(

I lasted a mere 1 1/2 hrs of play time. Every time I pick up a set from NUELOW Games I haven't been disappointed. Great gaming to all, enjoy.

Thank you, Herb, for posting about ROLF!, but thank you even more for playing. The same "thank you for playing" goes out to the rest of you as well... but we'd REALLY love to be able to thank you for letting us know about your experiences with the game!

Hopefully, we'll continue to keep Herb and the rest of you happy with our efforts! Please let us know how we're doing, either with FACEBOOK posts, visits to our blog or FACEBOOK page, or by posting comments on the product listings at RPGNow. We won't know what's working unless you tell us.

The cover for NUELOW's "Names in the Black Book"

A host of computer problems this week has caused us to fall a little behind schedule here at NUELOW Central. The hope was to have our latest Robert E. Howard anthology available for download yesterday, but instead it will be sometime today. The ROLF! supplement will appear Saturday or Sunday, instead of Friday, as we had planned.

The good news is it gave me time to rethink the title of the Steve Harrison anthology... while he may be a detective in the River Street Precinct, only one story in the book actually takes place anywhere near River Street. So, that title simply didn't work!

But here's the cover for "Names in the Black Book," a small anthology featuring a trio of Robert E. Howard stories about Detective Steve Harrison and some particularly bone-chilling cases.

An interesting bit of trivia about the story from which the book draws its name: It's actually a sequel to a story that didn't see print during Howard's short career and lifetime.

The editors of "Strange Detective Stories" apparently rejected the first Steve Harrison adventure, "Lord of the Dead," but bought this sequel and two other Harrison tales--"The People of the Serpent" [which they published as "Fangs of Gold"] and "The Secret of the Tomb." The latter tale, they revised so it starred "Brock Rollins" instead of Steve Harrison.

That said, "Names in the Book of the Dead" works perfectly fine on its own. The tales here shows that Howard could write detective fiction as well as he wrote horror and fantasy... even if the detective adventures presented here overlap quite a bit with the horror genre.

By the way, these are some of the stories that critics point to when they say Howard's writing is racist. While I certainly agree that his tendency toward casual racism is in full force in all three stories--even more clearly as they all involve ethnic communities of one kind or another. I would like readers to notice that the hero, Officer Harrison, is not a racist. The same can't be said of the villains in "Graveyard Rats."

Coming this week from NUELOW Games...

Two releases! Wow!

First up, there's another anthology of Robert E. Howard fiction along the lines of "The Deadly Sword of Cormac" titled "Terror on River Street: Three Strange Cases for Steve Harrison".

Then, there's another supplement for "ROLF!: The Rollplaying Game of Big Dumb Fighters" titled "Hammerin' Tongs," with a fight against nefarious Chinese gangsters that starts with brawling sailor Steve Costigan whupping tail on the waterfront of Hong Kong and ends with hard-bitten detective Steve Harrison mowing down bad guys in the dark shadows of the River Street District halfway around the world. (As last week's release was inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, so was this week's product inspired by Robert E. Howard. We're on a pulp fiction kick here at NUELOW Central!)

Prices and download links will be provided when the PDFs are finalized.
