The one thing left to finish in our Space Smith collection (with classic comics, a never-before-published short story, and roleplaying game rules for OGL d20 games) is the RPG rules section. Here's a preview of the Work in Progress.
SHIP BELT (AKA SPACE BELT)
This item creates a personal gravitational field around the wearer, allowing them to feel as though they are present in their native gravity. They are also used on vessels that don't have artificial gravity either due to size or because they direct the power needed into additional shields or maneuvering capabilities. Some high-end variety of ship belts double as communications devices that allows the wearer to tap into and use the ship's intercoms system.
Using a Ship Belt
After strapping the belt around his or her waist (or anywhere on the body), the character must make a Use Advanced Technology skill check (DC9) to properly attune the belt to the energy frequencies of the ship's defensive shields. The ambient energies in the ship are converted into gravitons by the forcefield, letting the character move about as if he or she is in the gravitational field of their native planet. Items and being outside the field remain weightless.
